Yamaha YAS-875 EX Custom and YAS-82Z Custom Z professional alto saxophones…
YAS-875 EX (Custom EX) Alto The YAS-875 has been discontinued. The YAS-875 EX is Yamaha's true
professional contender this year. Feature for feature, it compares with the Selmer Paris Super Action 80 Serie II alto as it lacks the extra tone hole for middle C#. Yamaha modified the former YAS-875 as follows...
- deleted the inner brace plate on the bow
- changed to the 2-point bell/body brace from a 3-point brace
- accentuated the bend in the low Bb key
- new neck receiver
- an improved ball joint octave key mechanism
- larger, flatter key pearls
- deleted lyre holder
- new deluxe ultra lightweight case
YAS-875EX Honey-gold lacquered, Engraved
Yamaha use a lacquer with some color in it to impart a warm rich color to the instrument. Engraving on the bell and bow YAS-875 B Black lacquered, Engraved
These photos are of the previous model but are fairly representative of the look of the YAS-875 EX This striking finish comes from black lacquer applied to the body while the keys
and the interior of the bell are polished and clear lacquered. Engraving on the bell and bow exposes the golden color of the brass underneath. The whole body is
then clear lacquered to protect the engraving from tarnishing.
YAS-875 S Silver-plated, Engraved These photos are of the previous model but are fairly representative of the look of the YAS-875 EX
This gorgeous finish is stronger than lacquer and improves tonal brightness and power by virtue of eliminating the high frequency sound absorption of lacquer finishes. Engraving on the bell and bow
YAS-82Z (Custom Z) Alto The YAS-82Z Custom Z is Yamaha's newest saxophone. It is positioned just
below the YAS-875 EX. It is based on the YAS-62, but with several enhancements including...
- a new annealed lightweight brass alloy
- a larger bell with engraving identical to the Custom EX
- accentuated the bend in the low Bb key
- 2-point bell body brace
- G1 neck
- a new neck receiver
- larger neck strap ring
- an improved octave mechanism.
- larger, flatter key pearls
- deleted lyre holder
- slim ultra lightweight case
Overall it has a darker sound than any other current Yamaha but not quite the deeper tone of a solid bronze Yanagisawa A992. It plays easily and with a full
sounding bottom end. It's upper register is still somewhat reminiscent of the brighter YAS-875 EX. Its power output is moderate. YAS-82 Z Honey-gold lacquered, Engraved
